Build on the Basic S-Shape
You can get more complicated than a basic S-shape and create multiple undulating curves. If you make your curves too tight, your mermaid will look like a boneless contortionist. Keep at least the part of the spine above the hips relatively straight.
Types of Fins
Fins are both a functional and decorative asp ect for your mermaids. They can be an individualizing feature and as fantastic as you wish to imagine.
Fins provide balance for your sea denizens, but can also be used to balance your compositions, providing flow and direction to a piece.
